Considered to be one of the top southern rock bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd got there name by distorting the name of one of their high school teachers. This has led to many different spellings for their name. Things like leonard skinner, linard skinard, lynard skynard (which is close) and even lnyrd sknyrd. This is the type of thing that happens with these type of names. The unclarity of their name didn't hold them back. With their classic southern sound, they rose to the top. Characterized by their throaty sounding Gibson Les Paul guitars and the pounding piano of Bill Powell, they really "get me up when I am feelin blue" ... now how bout you?
